Hi again, listmates,
For some reason (I know this sounds un-American) I have always felt the
melody to the birthday song has been rather trite. Nevertheless, it is
universal (in north America) and so there it is...
However,
In Latin America they have a wonderful birthday song (Las Mañanitas) which
has a beautiful melody and is bright and poetic. It's much better than
"Happy Birthday to you" and it really makes me jealous.
The words go:
Estas son las mañanitas
que cantaba el Rey David;
hoy por ser dia de tu santo
te las cantamos a ti. (There's more, but that's the best part)
Tito and Luis will be happy to translate them for you.
Respectfully submitted,
Bill "Good Morning to you" Gunter
