[Dixielandjazz] Laughs and Ringwald

Great story Pat.

Reminds me of the time my drums were stolen out of the back of my car after
a gig I played downtown Des Moines about 15 years ago. We had played a gig
and I packed up and drove a couple of blocks to join some friends for dinner
at a popular restaurant. I parked on the busy street in front of the
restaurant under a street light.

When I came out to get in the car, I noticed that my back windows were
smashed out and my precious Rogers drums had been stolen. I felt so
violated. It still makes me mad.

The police never recovered my drums, but a musician I play with who has a
bizarre sense of humor and also happens to be an Iowa State Trooper, called
me the next day to say that he saw my bass drum floating down the Des Moines
River.

Live and learn. I now have my equipment fully covered by a very affordable
policy purchased through the American Federation of Musicians. Local
insurance companies wouldn't even touch it.

Kurt

I was staring at the very same instrument the little sonovabitch stole out
of my car.>

Hi Bill,
I had a little sod swipe my entire drum kit from my garage. Suspecting that
it had been `fenced I started a trip round the local music dealers and in
the first one I visited there was my kit set up in the middle of the shop.
Two kids had arrived, by taxi if you please, with a yarn about their uncle
had given them the kit and they didn`t wan`t it. The shop paid them by
cheque.

One of the kids had a bank account and he was going to put the cheque
through but he was so obviously worried that his father, perspicacious man,
twigged something was up and asked what the trouble was.
The youngster confessed.
Father, being brighter than average, as well as perspicacious, and honest
to boot, rang the local police, assured them that the matter of the theft
had been sorted out and asked if they would drag the kid down to the police
station and frighten the B`jasus out of him.

The police did just that. Picked him up in a police car, took him to the
station, showed him the cells and read him the riot act.

Gives one faith in plain common sense. I bet the kid never offends again and
all achieved without the full panoply of the law being invoked.

Definitely last message before holiday. . Thanks to everyone who sent
messages wishing me well and those who offered to meet up if I was in their
vicinity.

Unsubscribing today, if I can work out how to do it.......dont do that
Dave......Dave...I wish you wouldn`t do that.....doctor Chandra....please
Dave...I can ........Dave ....please....mary had a little
lamb.............

Cheers

Pat
