Hello all

The Rakhmaninov Prelude in C sharp minor was rather popular in the late
30s-early 40s, as the following recordings indicate.

Charlie Barnet Orch	May 1938
Casa Loma Orch August 1939
Dorothy Donegan	January 1942
Eddie Lang, guitar	May 1927
Hazel Scott, piano	December 1940
Jack Teagarden Orch	January 1941

The stand-out is the Eddie Lang version in 1927 - very radical indeed.

And, who was Dorothy Donegan?

On the subject of "classical" pieces in jazz, has anyone noticed that the
latest Brian Rust Jazz and Ragtime Records has dropped the magnificent
piano solos by Donald Lambert in January 1941? Very strange - these are
some of the greatest jazz piano solos ever recorded.

All the best
Anton
