[Dixielandjazz] Audiences

This is a good thread! Cell Block 7 was accepted in Taiwan in June, (June
16-28), in a way that completely astounded us! After a performance, we
always had to play 2-3 encores! The clapping was in rhythmic unison most of
the time. When we finally ended our playing, we were mobbed for autographs,
and pictures with members of the audience, sometimes it took us an hour to
start putting our instruments away! There was standing room only, and they
were backed up 3-4 deep!
When we entered the 14-18 story high shopping malls (with an atrium in the
middle), our CDs would be playing on the "Muzak", or whatever it's called
nowadays! The balconies above us were always lined with listeners! BTW! They
have escalators that go up four stories at a time...and look like they're
suspended in mid-air!
During our whole trip, I didn't hear "Rap", and very little R&R! Lots of
classical music playing everywhere, and music that I would put in the later
Frank Sinatra era. Also, lots of Bert Kaempfert, believe it or not.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, their tastes in music hasn't gotten as
far along/low as the American public's has. I can't explain it any other way
except to say they still enjoy melody and harmony!!
Other than Taiwan, I think OKOM audiences are just about the same in all of
the festivals we've played, be it England, Scotland, or the states!
Warm regards to you all!
