Your query (26 Aug) regarding "that photo of King Oliver's band with Louis Armstrong in what looks like a brick-walled
alley in a playing pose.  Could that have been because busking was a common practise back then?" just resurfaced while I
was deleting stuff in my 'in box'.
Sorry about the delay in replying.
It was taken outside the Pergola Dance Pavilion in San Francisco where the band had an engagement from 12 June  to
September 1921. It would therefore have been a publicity shot.
Have another look at the photo. Louis Armstrong is nowhere to be seen, as he did not join Oliver until a year later.
