Dear Ed and friends,
Ed mentioned: >To carry it a little further. George Buck is about the only one who is even
interested in OKOM and recording it for history or what ever.<
It can be carried a LOT further.
I too am a great admirer of George Buck and Bob Erdos.
(I have written album notes for both of them.)
I also appreciate the great efforts from Arbors and Nagel-Heyer.
But we should not stop there.
A (by no means comprehensive) list must include record companies like:
Swaggie, LaBrava, Jazz & Jazz, Nif Nuf, Newmarket (Australia).
Hep, Halcyon, Harlequin, JSP, ASV, Frog, Jasmine, Jazz Archives, Proper Box, Gannett (UK).
Timeless, Retrieval, Ambassador, Classics, Document, Storyville (Europe).
Jazz Oracle, Sackville, Jazz Crusade, Chiaroscuro, TOM, Diamond Cut, Jazz Unlimited, Mosaic, Merry
Makers (US/Canada).
Without most of the above there would be very little OKOM available.
Plus all those bands which produced their own LP/CDs over the years, without which we would be much
the poorer.
ALL of the above leave the four world-dominant 'majors" for dead when it comes to looking after
OKOM.
The crumbs from the majors is pathetic when compared to the above small private producers.
Kind regards,
Bill.
PS: I am not trying to create a full list, so listmates need not worry about about adding to it,
unless there is a glaring omission or two.
