Buddy Bolden was very well known? It occurs to me to ask by whom and when? He 
was certainly well known among blacks of his class in New Orleans but if he 
was known at all by "gens de couleur" or Creoles (unlikely) he was certainly 
not "recognised". Apart from police reports the first properly publicised 
comments on Bolden as a musician were not made until 1933 - 2 years after his death! 
(and then only in an African-American journal by a black write, E. Belfield 
Spriggins.
