Folks-

Regina and Claude are both great. And don't forget
Johnny Frigo. All signs of a resurgence of jazz
violin. Even my 8 year old son has gotten into the
act at http://www.jonathanjazz.com.

I'd like to add to the list Andy Stein and his new
album a la Joe Venuti:
http://store.mpr.org/PHC/catalog/product_generic.jhtml?id=prod240061.
The album includes Vince Giordano, Dan Levinson and
other familiar names.

Even Mark O'Connor (fiddler extraordinaire and former
protege of Stephane Grappelli) continues to play with
John Burr and Frank Vignola and will swing through the
Iridium later this month. His last album was with
Jane Monheit and Wynton Marsalis. There are other
groups and players emerging all around the country.
Especially compared to 5 years ago.

Regina is the most public presentment of a
strengthening movement in the string community. And
if more fiddle and violin kids can get turned onto the
music through Regina's fame or Mark O'Connor's camps
we should be able to keep trad jazz alive and kickin'.

Jim
