Dear Paul,
Years ago our band was looking for the chords and words to the verse.
Our ex-banjo player Ken Tratt knew them both, and I could recall some of the
words.
>From our youth.
But neither of us could remember from where.
They are not on the well-known jazz records from the period.
I asked everyone, even that great collector of old tunes, Turk Murphy.
No joy.
Then one day I found the long-forgotten source in my collection.
Mills Brothers. 28 Oct 1935.
Of course!!!!
Later, me mate Bob Pattie came up with both chords and lyrics.
"Lulu's Back In Town" (Al Dubin, lyr-Harry Warren, music).
Verse:
Where's that careless chambermaid
Where'd she put my razor blade
She mislaid it I'm afraid
It's gotta be found.
Ask her when she cleaned my room
What did she do with my perfume?
I just can't lose it, I've got to use it
'Cos Lulu's back in town.
Very kind regards,
Bill.
