Beecham was certainly quite a character and he founded no less than THREE
orchestras.

Beecham Symphony Orchestra, 1909
London Philharmonic Orchestra, 1932
Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, 1946.

Add to the above the New Symphony Orchestra (which he enlarged from a
chamber group to full orchestra in 1907) and his single handed maintenance
of the Covent Garden opera in the 1930s, and we have a man of astonishing
dedication to music - both financially and artistically.
