Perhaps the best known of the New Orleans jazz families was the Brunies
brood - Albert "Abbie", clarinet/Albert "Little Abbie", drums (nephew of the
others, all brothers), George, trombone, Henry "Hennie", trombone, Merritt,
trumpet, trombone, and Richard "Richie", clarinet. George Brunies
numerologically became Georg Brunis. Charlie Christian, Lester Young, and
Oscar Pettiford all played in family bands.
