PRESS RELEASE

FREEWHEELERS
10 July 2003 - Clevedon Jazz Club

Thursday 10 July 2003 sees the first visit to Clevedon Jazz Club’s Walton
Park Hotel venue for Freewheelers, a Pembrokeshire based band who, in their
3 years of existence have carved a reputation for themselves throughout
south west Wales.

Their musical style covers the whole ‘Traditional Jazz’ spectrum from
Classic, through Dixieland to Mainstream and earned the six very
experienced musicians a standing ovation at last year’s Brecon Jazz
Festival. Denise Wheeler, pianist, leader and founder, chose the rest of
the band on the basis of their musical ability, experience and ability to
read music as some of the extensive and wide ranging repertoire relies on
written arrangements.

Each Freewheeler has a varied and interesting background. Dick Williams on
cornet and flugel horn worked with Max Karinsky in New York and has an
Oscar awarded for Director of Animation on the film ‘Who Framed Roger
Rabbit’! Mike Hutchings on reeds is a professional musician who spent over
25 years in South African theatre and Big Bands. Gareth Lowden is the ‘baby
of the band’ and has played with most of the South Wales bands. Clive
Richard on bass is the newest band member with a career in rock, pop and
folk behind him and Bob Hughes on drums learned his trade in the RAF.

The doors open as usual at 8pm and the music starts at 8.30pm. The
admission price on the door for non members will be £5.50 - members will
get the usual concession. Further details of this event and all Clevedon
Jazz Club activities can be had from Trev on 01275 343210 or Bill on 01275
