[Dixielandjazz] Fw: "Jazz Radio" gripe

Those American radio programs which play nonstop jazz recordings but provide
no information whatsoever about who and what I am listening to are
maddening. During a short stay in San Francisco on my last US trip the radio
DJ put on a knockout big band recording of Since My Best Girl (Gal?) Turned
Me Down - I was so captivated by it that I wanted to rush out and buy a copy
there and then, however without knowing what band/label it was I could not
do so. I scoured the internet in vain because there are so many different
versions of the tune currently available. By golly, I would love to have
that CD but doubt if I ever shall.
Stan Brager has explained the reasons why this happens, nevertheless if I
had my way it would be a capital offence. Thank goodness here in the UK we
are much better served by jazz DJs such as as Humphrey Lyttelton who gives
chapter and verse on every recording he plays on the air.
