[Dixielandjazz] What OKOM is turning into folks and keeping it alive for youngsters

The following is an example of what young people are doing with OKOM, like it
or not, they are making some of it their music and adding elements of today's
music with it to get a whole new marketplace happening.

Most of you will absolutely HATE this band, but they have to be admired for
experimentation with Jazz and improvisation, and trying to take it to another
level.

I don't particularly like it either, but they have a solid tour schedule of
paid dates so they are obviously finding a willing audience of listeners who
like TKOM (Their kind of Music), which included some of OKOM.

check out their website:

Better yet some of you folks out there in the Midwest go to a few of their
gigs and take your grandkids and see if they like what they hear. It should
prove interesting for all of you.

Check out the letter I got from them folks, it even purposely omits correct
Capitalization, and English language protocol, that is their way of being hip,
and not acting like their parents or grandparents or teachers or whatever
influences that bore down upon them.
Cheers,

Tom Wiggins

hello.
we're just home from the roskilde festival in denmark (big freaking ups to
all!) and ready to hit the road again.

check out the all ages dates coming up...we do as many all ages shows as we
can, but that's still only a few per season, so tell all your midwest
under-agers about the gigs. we've also got another european tour
approaching. it will be a blast, i'm sure. we're including the UK and
netherlands along with revisiting places like germany, austria, switzerland
and belgium. look out for a france/spain/italy/croatia/slovenia tour in the
fall. see dates below. the website will keep you updated. tell your cohorts
to sign the email list at the site www.youngbloodbrassband.com
there are also new pictures going up at the site, along with new FAQ's,
listening/reading lists, and whatever else you request, thanks to the love
of our short lives, mr. dustin drees (who deserves a big email-list
congratulations on his recent engagement).

all you people going back to school - students, teachers, volunteers, etc. -
please contact us about coming through. we'd love to hit as many high
schools, universities and other types of educational facilities as possible
in october. teachers/artists interested in becoming part of the layered
collective should also get in touch.

the website store has been restocked with almost everything....12" vinyl,
cd's, double vinyl, posters, pictures...the newest addition is my book
'langsyne', the first of many releases from 'layered books', our publishing
house. female poets are encouraged to submit work for a fall collection to
youngblooded at juno.com proceeds from all layered books go back towards
publishing more books from young, independent writers and keeping them
cheap.

youngblood sheet music will finally, at long last, be making its debut on
the website soon. another service of layered music is to transcribe
willing/independent bands' charts and make them available to school
ensembles. the layered website is finally getting it's collective (get it?)
self together, and will have information on layered functions, people,
events, excerpts and involvement very soon. you can thank the workhorse that
calls itself scott anthony pauli.

we're currently gearing up for the european tour, playing a few midwest
dates, getting some new material together, and more or less trying to
evolve/create as much as possible. as always, vivist the website
(www.youngbloodbrassband.com), leave your thoughts, tell us what you're
listening to, reading, send us mixes, love, ideas, comments, questions and
critique. big fat shout! to ex-band member josh smith for maintaining the
email list.
