<<<<Dear listmates--

I have been submerging myself in the works of C. G. JUNG lately and it
has caused me to think about a symbol for jazz--a logo, for all intents
and purposes. The only thing I can think of right now which has been
used as a logo for jazz (and by that I mean collective jazz; more to the
point, hot
jazz) is a cornet (as that is a horn of the vital time when jazz was
king) to the word "Jazz" with a saxophone representing the "J.">>>>>>>>

 Hey Burt,

Nice to know about your interest in finding a logo for Jazz!

Pardon my following comments, no intention of criticism.
I have been studying JUNG's works for years, actually I attended for
three semesters the classes at C.G.JUNG Institut in Zurich. It would
be nice and relatively easy to have a SIGN for jazz; if you mean a
logotype. As the one you suggest.

But as I understand from Jung theory, a SYMBOL for jazz would be
something different, because a symbol "should be understood as an
intuitive idea that cannot yet be formulated in any other or better
way".

Symbols are not allegorical for they would them be about something
already familiar but they are expressive of something intensely alive,
"stirring" in the Soul.
For a Jazz-symbol I would suggest a cornet inside a red heart;
or a flame coming out of a saxophone. You get the idea?
That is, a figure conveying "an intuitive idea that cannot yet be
formulated in any other way".
