Listmates: regret I missed the earlier post re Mussorgsky. Pianist Fred
Hersch has arranged for small group on an album entitled "Red Square Blue,
jazz impressions of the Russian Composers." Included on that excellent
album is Mussorgsky's Pictures at An Exhibition. He has various guest
artists on the album including James Newton on flute, Toots Thielemans on
chromatic harmonica, and Phil Woods on alto sax or clarinet. On Hersch's
arrangement of Pictures at an exhibition its just his group which includes
Erik Friedlander on cello, Steve LaSpina on bass and Jeff Hirshfield on
drums. There are compositions, in addition to Mussorgsky, Gliere, Scriabin,
Tchaikovsky, Rimsky-Korsakoff, Liadov and Rachmaninoff.

Hope this is helpful.
