Well, it is truly amazing what one can do with the internet. After a couple of emails indicating an interest in these recordings I tried to find a number for Norvell Rose, the fellow who knew the sound person. I found nothing in Denver so I did a Google search and found a Norvell Rose in Virginia Beach, VA. He had a realty firm and his web site had an audio clip on it. I listened to the clip and sure enough it was Norvell. I called him and after getting over someone out of the distant past calling him, he indicated he would try to find the man's name. We will see what happens and I will keep all posted.
If Norvell doesn't come up with a name I have one other resource. A very dear friend is married to Peter Schickele's brother (David is now deceased) who has a daughter who works at Carnegie Hall and she might be persuaded to peruse the archives for the fellow's name.
I have always felt that this was an archive deserving of preservation but when I first mentioned it to a number of jazz friends they just said most of the concerts had been recorded commercially so this stuff would have been inferior but I think that is a wrong attitude. It is like the draft of a great novel or a better case is the Picasso Museum in Barcelona. There you can see dozens of paintings and drawings that led up to some of his great paintings. A first draft if you will.
Anyway, I will keep working on this and we will see what happens,
Best,
Bill

According to the sound man this had been going on from the late 30's up to
the time he retired which I would guess was in the 80's.
I am not sure I could locate the fellow because all Norvell told me was that
he lived in Littleton but if there were interest I would make an attempt to
see if I could find him.
If anyone has thoughts on this situation let me know.

  Hi Bill:

I would be very interested in them, what a fabulous collection it could be and a very useful educational tool for the preservation of OKOM and Jazz. Might even be great fodder for another Ken Burns type program which gave Jazz a much needed shot in the arm.

Whether or not we liked all its content or the manner in which it was presented.
