I have been to the Louis Armstrong Archives. They are doing a wonderful job
of preserving and cataloging Louis' personal affects, private collections,
recordings, etc. I would encourage any of you, if you get to NY, be sure to
visit the Archives.
I also encourage you to subscribe to their mailing list and the their
newsletter, see below.

> LAHA Set for "Landmark" Year
>
> All of us at the Louis Armstrong House & Archives send you our best wishes
for a healthy and joyful 2003. The holiday season has given us a chance to
catch our collective breath before we enter what will be the most exciting
year in LAHA history -- the year that the Louis Armstrong House, a national
and New York City landmark, opens to the public!

> "Louis Armstrong in Concert" Opens January 16
>
> We haven't set the date for the fall House opening (you'll be the first to
know when we do), but in the meantime, we have some very special events
coming up. From January 16 through May 8, "Louis Armstrong in Concert" will
be on display at the Archives. This exhibit features a remarkable assortment
of concert programs, video footage of live performances, sound recordings,
photographs, posters, newspaper clippings, and concert tickets. It's sure to
rekindle memories for those of you who were lucky enough to see Pops in
concert. And for everyone else, it's a terrific opportunity to experience
some of the excitement of an Armstrong performance.

> Marty Napoleon and the QC Jazz Ensemble at the Archives on February 20
>
> If you want to hear Louis's music played by some outstanding musicians,
you're invited to attend our "Louis Armstrong in Concert" reception at the
Archives on Thursday, February 20. This special evening is made possible in
part by the Recording Academy and the 45th Annual GRAMMY Awards. Marty
Napoleon, pianist with the Armstrong All Stars for more than a decade, will
be making a special appearance with the Queens College Jazz Ensemble. We'll
also be screening "Hallo Satchmo," a 1965 concert film of Louis and the All
Stars in Prague, Czechoslovakia, which was recently restored with help from
the Grammy Foundation. The reception will be from 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm, at the
Louis Armstrong Archives, in the Rosenthal Library at Queens College. It is
free and open to the public (no RSVP). We hope you can make it!
