[Dixielandjazz] World Series of Jazz

Dear Listers:

The discussion about jazz band cutting contests reminds me of the notorious
World Series of Jazz, held in Indianapolis in 1976.  I was not there, but
friends of mine attended and had a great time.  It was held as a
competition, with prizes to be awarded.  Unfortunately, the promoter came up
short, and decided to head for the hills with the prize money.  The World
Series was never held again.
