[Dixielandjazz] re: music training

I'm not sure we all improvised very well as teenagers either; as a youth, I 
was too timid to take many chances.  I am sure the current crop of young 
people are much stronger players than we were at that age. 

Perhaps normal self doubt and lack of experience makes for inappropriate 
treatment of songs. We have known these tunes for maybe 40 years longer than 
they have.

Sidebar: the young bands in my area don't swing.  Maybe too much rock music 
in the veins.??
