[Dixielandjazz] Trummy/Barney Recollection

To the best of my recollection, Trummy looked like he had a good tan. I can understand why he'd look white, especially in the company of darker members of his race. Barney Bigard, a creole, looked absolutely white. This got him into constant trouble when he traveled in the deep south with Duke or Louis. He had many stories on this subject. A sad situation for all. Dick

When Trummy first joined Louis He was just a distant name to me from the big band era. So when I went to see him with Louis, here was this very young looking guy. Also confusing was the fact that in some pictures he looked white or close to it.

Trummy and Teagarden were both very different trombonists and both of them complimented Louis beautifully.
