  Dear List,
                 This is a pre publication advice about my new book : 
"The Ancestry of Jazz: A Musical Family History"  now in the hands of 
the publisher, that should be available from early in the new year.  It 
  contains the results of a review of the literature about the  various 
musical family connections that contributed to the birth of early New 
Orleans jazz.
I had hoped it would be available for Christmas, but time ran out. As 
soon as I know the date of  publication I will advise further and 
update my website with detailed information.
              In the meantime if you are looking for a present for that 
jazz person  "Exploring Early Jazz" and "The Loudest Trumpet" are
