Press Release

Negro Spirituals, New Orleans Hymns & Hot Gospel

at St Andrew The Great, Cambridge Thursday 10th October at 8PM

"Praise God with the sound of the trumpet and the loud clashing cymbals"
said the old Testament prophet. Did he have in mind the sound of a roaring
six piece jazz band playing hymns and spirituals with an exciting beat? This
is what is on offer when Britain's Ace Drummin' Man John Petters brings
"Walkin' With The King" to the Church of St. Andrew the Great, St. Andrew's
St., Cambridge on Thursday 10th October at 8PM

The music on offer will include such Spirituals as Just A Closer Walk with
Thee, Down by The Riverside, Lord, Lord, Lord, He's Got The Whole World in
His Hands, and of course the evergreen When The Saints Go Marchin' In.

The band has also made fresh, swinging arrangements of such favourite Hymns
as Abide with Me and The Lord's My Shepherd.

The band's first Spirituals CD Walkin With The King received great critical
acclaim on a New Orleans Radio Show, and Jazzology Records will be issuing
the album in the USA in the near future.

John Petters' New Orleans Allstars features virtuoso clarinettist Trevor
Whiting, reckoned by many to be the most individual sound of jazz clarinet
today.

Top cornet star Ken Sims, who graced many of Acker Bilk's hit records during
the 50s trad boom, will be on hand to add the flavour of Louis Armstrong to
the proceedings.

Trombonist Mike Pointon is probably the finest tailgate trombonist around.
He recorded with George Lewis, Albert Nicholas, Cap'n John Handy and a host
of other New Orleans veterans.

Tim Phillips, Cambridge's "Mr Jazz" will provide the rhythmic lift on banjo
and guitar and Keith Donald will lay down an impeccable bass line.

Of the bandleader - John Petters is a driving and exciting drummer in the
New Orleans style and is famous for his flamboyant solos in the Gene Krupa
tradition.

Tickets for "Walkin' With The King" which are just £10, (£8 concessions) are
available from the jazz credit card hotline on freephone 0800 496 0673.

country - so early booking is advisable - for this promises to be a night to
remember for those lucky enough to get a ticket.
