This is true with many of the big name singers.  If you want them to
sing your song, they buy it off you flat rate, and put their name on
50%, then their publishing company (that they own) gets the other half.
Or, you may retain 25%, the singer 25%, and the singer's publishing
company gets the rest.  The nasty arrangements go on & on.  Depends on
how bad you want the deal.
