About a week after 9/11, I was in Colorado Springs airport boarding a =
flight to Atlanta. (I had driven to CO)
I had my trombone in a gig bag and was attempting to pass security and =
board, when the screener asked me to play the horn.(They had a terrorist =
cornered (me) and they wanted to close in for the kill)
Being of large ego, I complied, took out my trusty Bach and laid "I'm =
getting Sentimental Over You" in "D", put away the horn and was allowed =
to carry on the 'bone without further
incident.
I thought it was humorous at the time, but looking back on it, I wonder =
if they REALLY knew what I was playing.
It got me, and the ax on the plane however, and I now wonder about a =
Lufthansa flight I'm boarding next Monday for France.
What would be an appropriate tune ?
It really happened, and I wonder what would have happened to the Bach in =
the gig bag if I hadn't convinced them I was, in fact, a 'bone =
player.Remember the slide tubes look like a gun barrel.
Before this incident, I was always allowed to carry the trombone on =
board without question, as it will fit in the overhead bin. I'm a little =
concerned about this Monday, however.
Just a reflection. Anyone else had to "play" themselves on to a plane, =
bus or subway ?
