PRESS RELEASE
ALICE'S WONDERLAND BAND
12 September 2002 - Clevedon Jazz Club

Thursday 12 September is the first Clevedon Jazz Club event of the=20
2002/2003 season and the start of the Club's new Membership year - and what=
=20
a way to start the year. Alice's Wonderland Band is one of the Club's most=
=20
requested Bristol based band and it's been far too long since they've=20
played for the Club.

Among the original group of musicians who turned up `for a blow' - and=20
thereby started jazz at Bristol's Old Duke, Jill Whittingham and her=20
husband then joined the Okeh Rhythm Kings before forming there own band=20
nearly 30 years ago with the aim of recreating some of the sounds of the=20
early jazz bands of the 1920's. The Band's repertoire still includes the=20
music of Jelly Roll Morton, King Oliver and Duke Ellington and of course a=
=20
few of Jill's humorous monologues.

As usual Alice's Wonderland Band consists of Jill herself on Banjo, husband=
=20
Clive on Trumpet, son Tom on trombone, washboard and anything just about=20
anything else to hand, Hugh Roberts on clarinet and tenor sax, and John=20
'The Bear' Massey on string bass.

The venue as usual is the Walton Park Hotel, the doors open at 8pm, the=20
music starts at 8.30pm and the price is =A35 `on the door'. Further details=
=20
of this and all other Clevedon Jazz Club events, and Club membership -=20
members get a substantial discount on admission charges! - are available=20
from Trev on 01275 343210, Bill on 01275 842151 or from the Club's web site=
=20
