Subject: [TPIN] severinsen yesterday

Never have I been a really big Severinsen fan. So when I went to a =
master class and concert yesterday to see him, I just though it would be =
"neat" to see him and hear him play live. By the end of his master =
class I knew I had underestimated him. He did not even touch a trumpet =
the entire class, but he talked about the trumpet and some of his =
experiences with it. I was impressed by how well the master class went =
and what a great person he was. He was really good about cracking jokes =
every now and then and it was probably the most entertaining materclass =
ive ever went to, but he didn't go thin on the reason we were there, to =
talk about the horn. Some of his ideas were very interesting but none =
of them wrong everything he said was right on and it was just a great =
experience. I went to talk to him after the class and he was signing =
and everything, not unwilling to take a couple of minutes to talk one on =
one with the students and players, he was very outgoing and he concert =
later that night was very good as well. He didnt play a whole lot but =
it was always exiting when he picked up his horn and got ready to play. =
Of course he was in his usually thought provoking concert atire, but not =
durring the class, he was dressed in jeans a shit and denim jacket. One =
of the interesting things he suggested was using a tuba mouthpiece at =
the begining of your warm up. He explained how even Bud Herseth started =
his practice many days with a Bass trumpet and worked his way up to C =
trumpet. I hope to meet him again some time, such a great personality, =
a great man with an almost uncanny ability to put you at ease and make =
you comfortable, even about the horn on days when it just doesnt want to =
cooperate. He ended the class by telling us, whenever we are about to =
start warming up for practice to tell ourselves "I am just about to have =
a ridiculously good day". I just though id pass this on the the rest of =
the the list.
