[Dixielandjazz] Internet translators

Hello Listmates,

Recently John Farrell received an e-mail from an Italian gentleman who spoke 
no English. He (the Italian) used an internet translator - 
http://www.freetranslation.com - to render his text into English.

The results were somewhat amusing but I think the gist of the message came 
through.

Anyway, I thought it would be a fun experiment to write a simple text, use 
the translator to convert it to Italian, then use the derived Italian text 
and retranslate it back into English.

Here is the result:

1. Original text:

Dear John,

I'm sorry to tell you that I have met somebody else. We have decided to get 
married and so I am returning my engagement ring. I hope you understand.

Your friend,

Mary Ann Johnson


2. Italian translation:

John caro,

Sono dolente per dirlo che qualcuno ho incontrato altro. Abbiamo deciso di 
prendere sposato e cosí ritorno il mio squillo di impegno. Spero che lei 
capisce.

Il suo amico,

Mary Ann Johnson


2. Retranslation of Italian back into English:

Expensive John,

I am hurting to say it than someone I met other.  We decided to take married 
and cosí I return the mine I ring of engagement.  I hope that she 
understands.
