Concerning the Billy Banks’ Rhythm Makers sessions,
Jim Denham asked:"If Eddie Condon organised the band
(as is said), why didn't he get the guys together
again, without Billy Banks or (even worse) Chick
Bullock?"
Does this not have something to do with the uneasy
relationship between jazz and popular music at that
time? In the early thirties it may be that it was not
that easy to get a record company to record an
all-jazz session, so there had to be a "popular"
element hence the prolific recording career of Chick
Bullock. You find a similar thing in the shape of
period vocals on many (otherwise very fine) Jimmie
Noone records.
"Does anyone know anything about Jimmy Lord?"
Is there an entry for him in any of the editions of
John Chilton’s "Who’s Who of Jazz"?
