John Dengler playing wonderful tuba. Plus they are the only OKOM band
i know of to play the Thelonious Monk piece, "Off-Minor" (which is also
the name of the CD)."
List mates & Dan:
Well, since you brought it up, Barbone Street also plays, on occasion,
songs by Thelonious Monk including "Off Minor", "Bright Mississippi",
"Hackensack", "Nutty", "Blue Monk", "Let's Cool One", "Bemsha Swing"
and a bunch of others.
Goes along with my theory that Monk was really just expanding the
boundaries of Stride, OKOM and jazz, in a direction closer to
"Dixieland" than to bebop.
I know that idea may be a mind blower to many on the list. If so, blame
it on Bobby Hackett's influence (Yeah, what did he know?) and lots of
introspection while savoring single malt beverages and ogling young,
hard body, swing dancers at gigs. That kind of thing does alter the
mind. ;-)

PS. Loved to see John Dengler's name in print. Marvelous tuba player,
neat guy.
