Hi Listmates...
Since I've lost Tito's email address, I'll take this opportunity to =
thank him in front of ya'll!!
I received a package from our DJML mate in Brazil last Friday...in it =
was two rhythm instruments previously discussed on this list..remember =
"Caxixis"? Very clever little shakers that he has sent to Bill Gunter to =
add to his arsenal. As soon As Billy returns from his wanderings, =
they're his!=20
BUT!! Also in the package were four great CD's of his band! One of them, =
"Classical jazz Today" has wonderful tunes done in a way I've never =
heard, a mix of South American rhythms and New Orleans street/swamp =
beats...just great!! The other one is his quintet, "Jazz Fireworks", =
sixteen great tunes with a lot of "guest" artists...he sent one each to =
Bill and I.
The first tune on "Classical Jazz Today", is one I've never heard, =
called, "Blues For Today"...very nicely done!The second tune is called =
"Indian Sagua"...it's hard to describe!! Has a little middle eastern =
sound mixed with a great jazz beat...
I hope they can come to some festivals in the states...they would be a =
real hit! Very exciting!!
