[Dixielandjazz] Bakelite Trumpet

I have a Harmony bakelite tenor banjo.  Mario Maccafari manufactured =
respectable styrene ukuleles, guitars and fiddles.

On a visit to a local music store this afternoon, the owner showed me a
King trumpet that had Bakelite valves.  The bell and tuning slides were
all brass,but the valves were incased in Bakelite.  He said he thought
it was made during WW2 and manufacturers could only use so much brass in
instruments.  Has anyone heard of this and has anyone seen such an
instrument ?  Do you know of any other instruments with Bakelite parts ?
