Brian was a fine clarinetist. I never got to work with him but did meet =
him several times and heard him a few times as well. He was on the Jazz =
Ltd. Band for a short while when Bill Reinhardt moved the club from 11 =
E. Grand to 164 E. Grand and wanted to spend more time up front getting =
things settled. Dave Rasbury was on trombone when I joined the band in =
'63, and talked about Shanley all the time, and was a big fan, so when =
got to hear him play later I had to agree with Dave's assessment of his =
playing...really fine.
I had not heard the name much in recent years and often wondered if he =
was still with us. Sadly, it seems he is not.
The class grows smaller.

Bob:
I had Brian in my band some years ago. In the 60's, I believe. I had =
brought Clancy Hayes in to Dayton for what ended up as an 10-12 week =
gig.=20
It was my band but, by agreement, Clancy's name hung on the marque.
We opened with Frank Chace of clary and Beebe on trombone but after a =
short period (a matter of days) Clancy and Chace had gotten into a =
fistfight in their motel and Clancy clobbered Chace's nose. Chase left =
and I brought in Brian and his albert system clary. He played very well. =
Replace Beebe with Ed Hubble.
Sorry to hear about Vrian . I have often wondered
what happened to him. Losing a lot of friends recently.
Thanks for the posting, or I may never had known.

Sadly, I just read in the local obituary that Brian Shanley passed =
away at age 70. It said he was a clarinet player and that he toured with =
the Bob Scobey band. As I remember, I think he played for many years in =
"Hangtown" jazz band also. I heard him play several times, and as I =
remember, he played an Albert system clarinet.
If anyone wishes more information, let me know off-list.
STAY HEALTHY!!!
