Several listers and a couple of others have inquired about whether Lou
Brown is still around, because they hadn't gotten replies to eMails
concerning his Firehouse Fake Book.
I saw Lou this weekend at the Great Connecticut Jazz Fest and raised the
matter with him. He said he's still selling the book, but he's been very
busy playing all over the place, and simply hasn't the time to attend to
his eMail.
He was playing with Jeff Barnhart's Titan Hot Seven. Man that was a treat.
I hadn't heard Bob Draga (clarinet) before, and the awesome Dave Gannett
was on Tuba/bass. Jeff Barnhart's a gas, as pianist and clown.
The highlight of the festival for me was a set of Barnhart and Louis
Mazetier (Paris Washboard, probably the world's best stride pianist) doing
solos and duets, with a marvelous climax of Sheik of Araby and World is
waiting for the sunrise.
