Hi all,
I am now about to try to 'go on holiday' from the DJML for three weeks as I
make a trip across the pond to what I hope will be better weather on the Gulf
coast of Florida. (Not actually having a 'good' summer in the UK unless you
have webbed feet!)
Before I go I will draw everyones attention to a new CD just released on the
Lake label which features Peanuts Hucko with the Alex Welsh Band. Recorded
'live' at the Manchester Sports Guild in May 1967 it really steams along and
demonstrates why the Welsh Band was regarded as one of the best in the world
in the Chicago Dixieland field and why it was chosen as the 'backing' band
for most of the American visitors to these shores in the 1960s such as Wild
Bill Davison, Bud Freeman, Pee Wee Russell, Vic Dickenson and many others.
The 9 minute version of Beale Street Blues will push the walls back if you
turn the volume up!
If you want further details please let me know. There is time as I am not
travelling until Sunday but want to make sure that the guy who is checking by
email for business purposes whilst I'm away is not buried under an avalanche
of DJML mail.
Cheers,
Jerry,
Norwich,
U.K.
