Yes, how could anyone miss the ultimate jazz wife, Lil Hardin Armstrong
who was such an important force in Louis Armstrong's life. I believe that
Louis gave her financial support all of her life.
I played with her a few times in Chicago and I remember her telling what
a good whistler Louis was. She said that Louis would whistle great choruses
on tunes and she told him, "why don't you play on your trumpet those great
things that you are whistling." and, according to her, he did start doing
just that.
She was a great lady, a great musician and good natured and fun to be
around.
