OKOM IN NEW YORK.

Note the references to Vince Giordano's Nighthawks, and Jim Cullum.
Certainly OKOM. Then Dick Hyman and Marion McPartland, some MKOM folks
on the list like them. This was the top pick music of the month for the
Times. Will wonders never cease?

Cheers,
Steve Barbone

New York and New Orleans and past and present intersect beginning
tonight, when Jazz in July returns to the 92nd Street Y
for six shows ending on July 25. Under the artistic direction of Dick
Hyman, the series opens at 8 p.m. with "Legends of
New York Jazz," featuring Mr. Hyman, Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks
and the Marian McPartland Trio, with Rufus
Reid on bass and Kenny Washington on drums, joined by the trumpeter
Byron Stripling. Other highlights include a night
(Thursday) of New Orleans jazz with the Jim Cullum Jazz Band; a
long-lost arrangement (July 22) of Gershwin's "Porgy &
Bess," and a tribute (July 25) to the late stride pianist Ralph Sutton.
