When I first saw the Armstrong All-Stars and it was early one when both
Teagarden and Big Sid were still in the band they wore Tux Jackets
(colored---all the same) with black tux pants. This was common in the 40's
and 50's with many band.
In the 50's we were working in NY and Boston and switched from dixieland
blazers and vests to Brooks Bothers suits. We did it because Miles Davis'
band had them and we thought they looked good. Wore them on our West Coast
tour and to gigs everywhere incl. New Orleans. Al Rose put a pic of us in
his book in these 3 button jobs with long black ties. He also said in the
book that the suits were Italian silk....they were not.
