[Dixielandjazz] TV is a Visual Medium

List mates:

TV is a "VISUAL" medium, and Visual mediums therefore demand uniforms?
Funny, we took no notice of that in discussing the Ken Burns Jazz Show.
What were all those people wearing? How come we didn't all critique
what those musicians were wearing instead of what they played or what
they said? (Some wore uniforms, some did not)

Why doesn't Tony Bennett dress the Ralph Sharon trio in uniforms when
they are on TV, etc., etc., etc. Visual as it may be, I think many
people remember what or how Bennett sang, rather than whether he was in
uniform or not. Same with Sinatra and Riddle, Count Basie etc., etc. A
30 second TV Commercial is no different. The people who concentrate on
what everybody was wearing are not the audience you are after. Dress
nicely and play good swinging OKOM. Better yet, find a clip of Louis
Armstrong's Band (not in uniform) and play that for 30 seconds.

Cheers,
