Dear Bill,
Tough talk about Ernie Carson.
I recall that we all had a similar discussion, some years ago, when he was
active on the DJML.
So..........in his defence I offer the following, which I had already sent off
to our mate Steve Barbone a day or so back.

Ernie was in Australia a few years ago and we organised several jobs for him
here in Sydney, using my band. - clt/bj/tu/wbd.
He was a delight.
Liked a drink (like us). Loved his jazz (like us). Had an eye for the girls (we
are no different). Lots of funny/dirty jokes (like most Oz musicians).
Colourful - yes. Friendly -very much so. Ego - not as bad as some here.
All-in-all a likeable person and a good jazz musician.
Perhaps the laid back (laconic?) Australian temperament suited him.
We (now 'professional', as we have retired from our day jobs) certainly did not
suffer from any hatred.
Not a bit.
Kind regards,
Bill.
