The Cradle of Recorded Jazz
About twenty-five miles west, of where I live, there is in Richmond Indiana
a resurrection project going on. The Starr-Gennett Foundation is the
process of re-building the original Gennett Recoding Studio. If you wish to
know more and/or be a part of this, go to their website listed below.
Unless I'm mistaken, Gennett was one of the factors for the early success of
OKOM.
The Jazz Museum
Citizens of Richmond and Wayne County, Indiana, supported by numerous
interested and influential individuals across the country and within the
state, are bringing to fruition what has long been a dream - a museum and
performance site where the Old National Road crosses the Whitewater River
gorge in downtown Richmond. This project will celebrate the city's musical
heritage and economic past. The story of the Starr Piano Company and its
pioneering offshoot, Gennett Records, will be told through exhibits and
interactive displays enhanced by live performances.
