Hello all

Pat Ladd suggests that Shakespeare refers to "carrot wine" in King Henry
the 6th, part 2. Aarrggh indeed!

Marry, 'tis not so - the reality is more pleasant. Jack Cade actually says
"I charge and command that, of the city's cost, the pissing-conduit run
nothing but CLARET wine ..." (Act 4, scene 6, 4). The "pissing-conduit" was
(?still is) a water conduit on a small stream near the Royal Exchange in
London.

Pass the Bordeaux.

All the best
Anton
