Hi listmates,

Steve Barbone, out there in old Pennsylvania, should love this one!

If you want to go a little bit afield from dixieland to find a "lawyer song"
you can go into the folk realm.

Woody Guthrie wrote a wonderful song called "The Great Philadelphia Lawyer"

If you know the words you can delete this now, if you're interested, read on
. . .

THE GREAT PHILADELPHIA LAWYER
by Woody Guthrie

Way out in Reno, Nevada
Where romance blooms and fades
A Great Philadelphia Lawyer
Made love to a Hollywood maid

He said "Your face is so pretty and lovely
Your form so fair and divine.
Come and go with me to the city
And leave your wild cowboy behind."

Now Bill was a gun-totin' cowboy
Ten notches he had carved on his gun.
And all of the boys around Reno
Left Wild Bill's girl all along.

One night when Bill was returnin'
>From ridin' the range so cold.
He dreamed of his Hollywood maiden.
Her love was more lastin' than gold.

As he drew near to the window
A shadow he seen on the shade.
'Twas the Great Philadelphia Lawyer
Makin' love to his Hollywood maid.

It was quiet and still on the desert
The moon hung bright overhead.
Bill lingered awhile by the window
He could hear every word the lawyer said.

He said "Come love and we will wander
Down where the lights are bright.
I'll win you a divorce from your husband
And we can get married tonight."

Now out in old Pennsylvania
Among those beautiful pines
There's one less Philadelphia Lawyer
In old Philadelphia tonight!

Respectfully submitted,

"Wild" Bill Gunter
