Hi all,
I was driving home from a gig Saturday at the California State Fair and happened to
tune my radio to KVMR (a very good non-commercial also on the web at kvmr.org) and
they were doing a live remote from The Palms Playhouse in Davis. They were closing
up with a big show by U. Utah Phillips and friends - a real hoot!
The Palms was sort of the "Folk" Music equivalent of Preservation Hall - not much in
the way of comforts or flash - just an old wood and metal barn - but it became a
great place for all kinds of musicians, local, national and international. There
have been quite a few show I missed (since I don't live in the Davis/Sacramento
area) but I always heard about them afterwards.
The good news it that the Palms organization is not quitting - they have a new place
at the Opera House in nearby Winters CA - actually bigger and air conditioned too!
more on that and many good links at www.palmsplayhouse.com
anyway,
