Hello Jazz Aspen,
Just curious, if you are essentially a jazz organization, and, from your =
website, it seems that you have some wonderful programs, why do you run =
a Labor Day festival with no jazz artists? Not only are they not jazz =
artists, but most of them aren't even remotely in the ballpark (Macy =
Gray? G. Love and Special Sauce? These people aren't even respectable =
in the music world). I will say that having artists such as Bob Dylan =
and Willie Nelson at a festival is a wonderful thing, but why not market =
yourself as a "music" festival? It's almost like you promote jazz, but =
then don't believe jazz artists will attract enough people for a large =
festival. It's sad, in a way, though we're having a laugh at your =
expense on the Dixieland Jazz Mailing List (nothing personal). If =
Herbie Hancock is your artist-in-residence, why is he not on the =
bill???? He's a commercial draw and doesn't usually fall into the =
quagmire of "Smooth Crap." Though, I wholeheartedly thank you for not =
booking Kenny G. At least Macy Gray doesn't claim to be a jazz singer!
All the best,
Rob McCallum
