Hello all,

If anyone out there is going to be in the Metropolitan Detroit area over =
Labor Day weekend, there are going to be 3 OKOM sets at the Ford Detroit =
Jazz Festival (formerly Montreux-Detroit). This festival has always =
been a very "modern" festival, however, this year Pete Fountain is a =
headliner (Monday night at 8p.m.- main stage). This is the first time =
in the festival's history in which a traditional jazz group is a =
headlining evening act. The Leroy Jones Quintet with Craig Kline on =
trombone is playing at 7:15 pm on Friday at the waterfront stage. Also, =
local clarinettist Charlie Gabriel is performing this year.

Some of the "modern" headliners this year are Branford Marsalis, Curtis =
Fuller, Louis Hayes, Louis Smith, Cedar Walton, Geri Allen, Joey =
DeFrancesco, Roy Ayers, Dee Dee McNeil, Regina Carter and David =
"Fathead" Newman.

The Festival is a 4 day event from Friday afternoon through Monday =
(Labor Day) evening and all concerts at all the stages are FREE =
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is the largest free jazz festival in North =
America. All the stages are located in Hart Plaza in Downtown Detroit =
on the river (Jefferson Ave at the foot of Woodward). For a complete =
schedule, you can go to the website at =
www.detroitjazzfest.com/homepage.htm=20

If anyone is interested in a face to face, contact me at =
rakmccallum@hotmail.com I'll be playing with the Schoolcraft College =
Big Band on Sunday night.

All the best,

Rob McCallum
