[Dixielandjazz] Duke Dejan New Orleans Jazz Legend Obit
Mon, 12 Aug 2002 08:18:45 -0500
Nice write up although someone must have not been acquainted with the facts.
Being born in 1909, Mr. Dejan would have been 8 years old when Storyville
closed. (Mahagany Hall included!) AND besides, the bands played in the bars
and not the brothels.
King Oliver played in the Olympia Brass Band BEFORE he left New Orleans to
go to Chicago. This states that Duke Dejan started the band in 1951.
